Who we are

School Catch is a school catchment map for Scotland, operated by Bytes Reality Ltd (company number 13192209), registered office 175 High Street, Barnet, England, EN5 5SU. It is the data controller for the personal data described here.

For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@bytesreality.com.

What we collect

We keep the personal data we handle to a minimum:

  • Postcodes and addresses you search. When you look up a location, the postcode or address is sent to our servers to find nearby schools and resolve catchments. We use it to answer that request and do not link it to your identity or build a profile from it.
  • Contact enquiries. If you submit the contact form (name, work email, organisation, the type of organisation you represent, and your message), we use those details to respond to you.
  • Technical request data. Like any website, our hosting and map providers receive standard request information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the page and the map tiles.

We do not run advertising or third-party tracking, and we do not sell personal data.

Lawful basis

  • Legitimate interests for running the search service and responding to enquiries you send us.
  • Legal obligation where we must keep records or comply with a lawful request.

Who processes data for us

We use a small number of processors, each handling data only on our instructions:

  • Vercel hosts the website and runs our application.
  • A managed PostgreSQL database stores the reference datasets (schools, catchments, postcodes) that power lookups.
  • Resend delivers contact-form enquiries to our team by email.
  • CARTO and OpenStreetMap serve the map tiles shown on the map.

Our fonts are self-hosted with the site, so loading a page does not send a request to any third-party font service.

How long we keep it

  • Search postcodes and addresses are processed to answer your request and are not stored as a record against you.
  • Contact enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and our records of it, then deleted. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm retention period]

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, erase or restrict the personal data we hold about you, to object to processing, and to data portability where it applies. To exercise any of these, email privacy@bytesreality.com.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
